Tameside Whit Friday Brass Band Contest

- Entry to the Tameside Whit Friday Open and Local will automatically be gained by bands who have competed at 6 or more of the Tameside contests.
- For the purpose of 1, any band disqualified under individual contest rules, will be deemed as not having played at the contest.
- Where possible, winning bands should send a representative to collect their award at a prize giving evening in Tameside at a venue and time to be advised.
- Entry to the local award competition will be automatic for bands whose headquarters are within a radius of 11 miles of Ashton Town Hall, who are not in the first three places (Tameside Open).
The Adjudicator’s decision is final.
METHOD OF ADJUDICATION
1. Each competing band’s best six results in order of merit will be used:
Example: Band ‘A’ competes at seven contests. The results are: 1st, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 8th, 8th, 10th. Place 10th is discarded. The other six results are added.
Result: 26 points scored.
The band with the lowest accumulative score will be adjudged the winner.
2. In the event of a tie, the band with the highest places of the tied bands will be adjudged the winner:
Example: Band ‘A’ scores as above.
Band ‘B’ scores: 1st, 1st, 1st, 5th, 8th, 10th, 10th. A 10th is discarded. The other six results are added.
Result: 26 points scored.
Band ‘B’ will be adjudged the winner because of their three first prizes against Band ‘A’s two.
3. If still tied, the number of contests attended will decide the winner:
Example: Of the tied bands who cannot be separated by the above method, the band that has competed at most Tameside contests will be adjudged the winner.
4. If a further tiebreak is required, Tameside MBC adjudicators may resort to joint awards.
Local Rules
The Heyrod Contest starts at 4.30pm and the last booking in for bands is 10.30pm. |
On arrival the bands book in with the at the desk in front of the Village Hall and then prepare to march down John Street. The march and their presentation is judged for deportment they are preceded by a board carrier, showing the name of the band up to the Village Hall car park. |
Normally, no more than 25 players in each band may play the contest piece, plus the conductor. |
Each performance is scored 'blind' by the adjudicator, hidden in the Village Hall. The adjudicator for the event is Mr Andrew McLaughlin. |
The contest is organised by local volunteers. All the running costs and prize money are raised by local donations and through Sponsorships. |
Refreshments are provided at the Village Hall by the Heyrod Residents Association. |
The Best Local Band prize is for bands within a 5 mile radius of Heyrod. |
Junior or Youth Bands are allowed up to 4 senior members to accompany playing with the band. |
